This is a jeweled USB flash drive from the Victorian Trading Co. website. I have been looking at this website for longer than I probably should admit. Part of me finds it hilarious but another (larger) part finds it completely entrancing. I want to buy everything: teacups of the month, floral tape, a calling card case (I might actually get that last one—it’s what led me to the site in the first place). Oh God, and the hats!
Why am I drawn to such weird, fussy stuff? It’s something that’s been driving me crazy with my writing, too: if I’m in a particular critical mood, everything I’ve put down looks unbearably precious and overwritten. But then I think about what I like to read, and what I like in general (see above), and I don’t see how I can escape it.
